Breast cancer prevention project in Rwanda

Coffee growing is an activity of great importance in certain regions of Rwanda. Coffee growing and everything that surrounds it have the capacity to generate a very positive impact, not only economically, but also socially, in the communities of these areas.

Aware of this, our partners Mare Terra Coffee and Baho Coffee launched in 2023, "Breast Cancer Prevention Project", a solidarity project focused on the detection and prevention of breast cancer, mainly through outreach and awareness.

The objective of this program is to raise awareness in the coffee-growing community of the importance of an early diagnosis of this disease. To do this, they organize educational days given by Rwandan health professionals, led by Dr. Nasson Nduwamungu, at the different washing stations that Baho Coffee has spread throughout the coffee-growing regions of the country.

In the words of Dr. Nduwamungu himself: "Early detection of breast cancer is the key to saving lives and protecting the community. But to achieve this, it is important to understand the disease and educate ourselves to mitigate the risks. Through seminars like this, self-examination and greater access to health centers, we can protect our communities."

The project is led and managed from the start by the team of Emmanuele Rutsatira, founder of Baho Coffee, and is fully funded by donations collected by the producer himself and by Mare Terra Coffee, within the framework of the sale of green coffee.

Of each kilo of Muka Kivu green coffee that we buy, €0.10 is destined for the "Breast Cancer Prevention Project."
